Brisbane Bubble Set to Get Bigger Under LNP

September 3, 2025

Despite winning government in the regions, the LNP are proposing to make the Brisbane bubble even bigger by cutting a seat in North Queensland!  Robbie Katter, the Leader of Katter’s Australian Party and Member for Traeger has said, reviewing submissions to the Queensland Redistribution Commission (QRC) review into electorate boundaries.

“Queenslanders outside of the south east are already strangled by the one size fits all approach from Brisbane, so expanding the number of seats down there will only further dilute the voice of the rest of the state,” he said.

“It really defies logic that the with more than half of their 53 being from outside the Brisbane Bubble, they’d suggest denying rural Queensland of a voice in the parliament,” the KAP Leader said.

Mr Katter also reflected that despite not suggesting the abolition of any seats, the ALP knew where their stronghold is.

“It’s clear that the ALP know they are the opposition from Brisbane,” Mr Katter said.

“They have only three of their 35 members outside of the south east, so encouraging the further unsustainable expansion of the largest seats in the state is nothing to them,” he said.

In stark contrast the KAP submission to the QRC calls for greater dispensation for the vast expansive electorates west of the divide, as well as special recognition of the often challenging and intensive effort required to adequately service remote First Australian communities.

“We want to see all Queenslanders have fair access to those who represent them in the Parliament down in Brisbane.  Those in the Brisbane bubble can cross their electorates in under 20 minutes end to end,” Mr Katter said.

“I’d love for them to try and service an electorate that is more than 6,500 time larger than their patch of suburbia.

“The Brisbane parties, and the QRC need to remember that we’re talking about the Queensland Parliament, and not the Brisbane Parliament, and all Queenslanders need a voice,” the KAP Leader said.
