Burdell’s New Ambulance Station Boosts Local Emergency Services

September 5, 2024

The highly anticipated Burdell Ambulance Station was officially opened today with Hinchinbrook MP and Katter’s Australian Party Deputy Leader, Nick Dametto attending the formal ceremony.

“With many new residents moving into the northern suburbs, this new facility couldn’t have come at a better time,” Mr. Dametto said.

“The Burdell Ambulance Station will be a critical asset for our community, providing 24/7 emergency services and ensuring faster response times for the growing population.

“The new ambulance station completes the emergency services spine that is being developed for the northern corridor of Townsville which also includes the Queensland Fire Department at Shaw and the Deeragun Police Station.

“Having all three emergency response services readily available to deploy at a moment’s notice means that people living in Hinchinbrook can be assured that help will be there in a hurry when you need it the most.”

The new station, built by FK Gardner and Sons at a cost of $12.4 million, will serve as a hub for emergency medical services and clinical education. It will also house the regional office, centralising operations and improving coordination.

“The northern suburbs are experiencing rapid growth, and it’s essential that we keep up with the increasing demand for emergency services,” Mr. Dametto added.

“This station will not only provide round-the-clock coverage but also support local healthcare professionals through its education unit.

“I proudly lobbied for an ambulance station in Burdell on behalf of the growing northern suburbs of Townsville, and after four long years it is fantastic to see it being delivered and utilised.

“Thank you to everyone who supported this project and to FK Gardner and Sons for their outstanding work.”
