Castle Law cannot be ignored: Katter

June 11, 2024

You just can’t argue with more than 40,000 Queenslanders, The Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) leader and member for Traeger, Robbie Katter has said.

KAP Deputy Leader, Nick Dametto, has introduced legislation to ensure homeowners can feel safe in their homes, and use whatever force that is necessary to defend themselves from intruders.  A petition to the Queensland Parliament to support the bill has attracted more than 40,000 signatories.

“Signing an official petition takes more than a like on Facebook,” the member for Traeger said.

“Queenslanders have had enough of weak approaches to crime and are demanding real action.

“Castle Law, introduced by the KAP sends a clear message to would-be criminals and home invaders – enter at your own risk.

“If Castle Law was passed, no longer would Queenslanders need to concern themselves about if defending themselves and their family would land them in court, not the intruder”, he said.

Despite official figures suggesting a decline in crime in Mount Isa and the wider Traeger electorate, constituents continue to express their concern and dismay about the out-of-control crime in Queensland towns.

“I only need to walk down the main streets of Mount Isa or Charters Towers, and one of the first things I’m asked about is when will the ‘Parliament pass Castle Law?’ Mr Katter said.

“Castle Law is desperately needed to curb the uncontrolled crime in our community – the major parties in Brisbane can’t ignore the Queensland people any longer.

“KAP is offering true solutions to a problem neglected for too long.

“Castle Law and ‘Send ‘em Bush’.  North Queensland solutions from North Queensland’s KAP.

“North Queensland has had enough of having puppet members from both Brisbane parties, trotting out the talking points from Brisbane HQ.

“It’s time for real representation for North Queensland,” Mr Katter said.
