Castle Law Queensland’s Biggest Petition – Queenslanders demand the Right to Defend their Home

October 13, 2025

More than two Suncorp Stadiums of Queenslanders have demanded Castle Law be introduced in Queensland, Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) leader and Member for Traeger, Robbie Katter has said.

“The KAP petition is now the largest in Queensland’s history, but we know already that the Brisbane major parties are running scared – they are refusing to entertain sending a real message to criminals, and allowing Queenslanders to feel safe in their home,” Mr Katter said.

The petition, which has now attracted more than 110,000 sends an unmistakable message to the major parties in Brisbane: Queenslanders demand the right to protect themselves, their families, and their homes without fear of prosecution.

KAP Leader Robbie Katter MP said the historic petition had proven the groundswell of frustration across regional and suburban communities dealing with relentless break-ins, car thefts, and youth crime.

“This is now officially the biggest petition ever in Queensland, and there’s still 10 days to go!  That tells you exactly where Queenslanders stand,” Mr Katter said.

“They’re sick of being told to stand by while repeat offenders terrorise their communities. The people of this state want Castle Law - and the KAP will deliver it.”

“The upcoming by-election in Hinchinbrook will be a referendum on Castle Law. A vote for KAP is a vote to restore the balance in favour of victims and law-abiding Queenslanders.”

Mr Katter said the KAP will benefit from Mark Molachino, KAP’s candidate for Hinchinbrook, with his experience with the crime crisis in Townsville if he is elected to Parliament.

KAP’s Castle Law Bill seeks to remove the requirement for homeowners to use “equal or proportionate force” when defending themselves from intruders, ensuring that Queenslanders acting in genuine self-defence are protected under law.

KAP Candidate for Hinchinbrook Mark Molachino said he was ready to take up the fight.

“The people of Hinchinbrook and across Queensland have spoken loud and clear - they want the right to feel safe in their own homes,” Mr Molachino said.

Mr Katter said the campaign for Castle Law would continue right through to the by-election and beyond.

“We’ll keep fighting until this law is passed. The people have spoken - now it’s time for Parliament to listen.”
