Dametto Commits to Fixing North Townsville Intersection Cluster

October 17, 2024

Member for Hinchinbrook, Nick Dametto, has committed to doing everything possible to see through the upgrades to the Woolcock Street and Bruce Highway intersections at Burdell and Deeragun, as residents in Townsville’s northern suburbs continue to battle gridlock along the notorious section of road.

“With thousands of people living in the Northern Beaches, these intersections are bottlenecks that are dangerous, particularly in peak times,” Mr Dametto said.

“Across Queensland we’re seeing all sorts of funding and infrastructure promises being made, from a potential LNP government.

“All the almost 40,000 residents of Hinchinbrook have been promised so far from their LNP candidate is a new tennis court in Ingham. While I am very happy for the Ingham Tennis Association, this funding commitment indicates that the candidate for Hinchinbrook, and the LNP leadership team, don’t understand and couldn’t care less about the needs of Hinchinbrook.

“Under Labor, North Queensland road infrastructure has been completely overlooked while billions of dollars have been pumped into projects like Cross River Rail, the Brisbane Olympics and other south-east projects.

“I live in Burdell and understand the everyday stress residents of the northern suburbs deal with when it comes to peak hour traffic in the largest growth area of Townsville.

“Neither of the major Brisbane based parties are willing to even show they care by mentioning this important road project, I will pledge my full commitment to seeing this project through. Hinchinbrook residents deserve better.

“The Labor party have neglected the north side of Townsville, and the LNP wouldn’t even know it is a problem.”
