KAP state leader Robbie Katter and member for Hinchinbrook Nick Dametto have called for the major parties to support KAPs call to increase the First Home Owners Grant.
From July 1, 2018 the First Home Owners Grant will reduce from $20,000 to $15,000, making it much more difficult for many first home buyers to secure the house of their dreams.
“The KAP is calling for the grant to be retained at $20,000 and also to be extended to first home buyers who are purchasing established homes,’’ Mr Katter said.
“Many regional Queenslanders are struggling to afford their first home and there is an over-supply of established homes in many Queensland regional areas.’’
Mr Dametto has been speaking to the Real Estate Institute of Queensland members, first home buyers and other stakeholders for a number of months.
“The feedback I have received is that people are very supportive of retaining the first home owners grant at $20,000 and also of extending this to established homes in regional areas,’’ he said.
“Having the LNP and Labor support the KAP’s call on this issue would be a step in the right direction.
“The KAP is committed to helping regional Queenslanders get into their first home, it is still the Australian dream, but it is becoming more unattainable.
“The first home owners grant scheme was rolled back for established homes under the Campbell Newman LNP government back in 2012 and we are calling for the LNP to do a backflip and support the KAP on calling for this grant to be re-instated.’’
