Senator Fraser Anning – Senator for Queensland

Unrepentant Anning’s speech condemned (Illawarra Mercury/Border Mail/Burnie Advocate/Ballarat Courier/Barrier Daily Truth/Launceston Examiner/Shepparton News/Newcastle Herald/Warrnambool Standard, August 16)
PARLIAMENT has united in fury and determination to condemn unrepentant Queensland senator Fraser Anning for his speech praising the White Australia policy and attacking Muslim immigration. But despite the strong criticism from across politics, the Katter's Australian Party MP has the "1000 per cent" support of his leader Bob Katter.

The maiden speech of Katter's Australia Party MP Fraser Anning advocating for a ban on Muslim immigration and prioritising white Christian Europeans has united both sides of politics in condemning the speech. One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson says Anning's message was appalling. Anning is refusing to apologise for his speech and says he was taken out of context. Federal MP Bob Katter has backed comments made his party member calling it a magnificent speech.

Robbie Katter – State Member for Traeger

Diverting attention (Balonne Beacon, August 16)
I AM writing to respond to the letter to the editor by Member for Warrego Ann Leahy. It seems Ms Leahy and her LNP colleagues are more determined to spend time criticising the KAP than fighting the Government. Maybe this is an attempt to divert attention away from the pro-agriculture initiatives the LNP haven’t supported? The LNP didn’t support a KAP Dairy Bill; the KAP’s Bill to establish a rural development bank; a KAP motion that would’ve given primary producers access to Category H firearms and a KAP motion to stop tighter gun laws. It’s bad enough Ms Leahy voted against these things but she doesn’t acknowledge when the KAP delivers for her electorate, like the $60 million western roads package or the $70 million in drought assistance and stamp duty concessions. Ms Leahy, a simple thank you would suffice. — Robbie Katter Member for Traeger

Shane Knuth – State Member for Hill

KNUTH CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO HONOUR STATEMENTS ON EDUCATION
Member for Hill Shane Knuth has called on the State Government to honour statements made in response to a question from fellow Hinchinbrook MP Nick Dametto in recent estimates hearings as it directly impacts schools in his electorate.

Mr Dametto asked the Minister for Education, “What budgetary plans have been made to resolve the issue of the growing number of acting principals, particularly in small rural and regional schools, rather than principals being placed in permanent positions in our Queensland school system?”

The Minister responded by stating “Quite clearly, our aim is to get as many permanent principals in position as possible”.

Mr Knuth said that in his experience the reality is the exact opposite.
