Message from the President

August 3, 2018

This week we have seen the generosity and good will of the Australian people at work, sending hay and donations to our famers in need.

The drought has firmly secured its grip around Central Queensland and NSW, causing hardship for our farmers.

The charities and volunteers that are assisting our famers are incredible and are providing hope in an otherwise hopeless situation. However, the issues affecting our agricultural industry need to be addressed, so that we can help them to survive the peaks and troughs.

KAP has a constructive policy that can help in these times of trouble. We are putting the Rural Reconstruction Bank back on the political agenda.  The Reconstruction Bank will take on the debt that primary producers have accumulated due to factors outside of their control, for example the drought.  Loans will then be restructured with lower interest rates during times of instability in the industry.  This assistance is qualified based on the viability of the farm, and the ability to repay.

The assistance provided to primary producers will have a direct impact in helping the economies of small surrounding towns.

KAP wants to ensure the longevity of Australia’s agricultural industry.

Remember, no farmers, no food.
