PRIME MINISTER, Scott Morrison, has reasserted his Government’s commitment to technology over taxes when it comes to the issue of climate change.
Kennedy MP, Bob Katter, is calling on the Prime Minister to ‘put his money where his mouth is’ and support a Bill proposed by the House of Representatives crossbench called the ‘Sovereign Fuel Security Bill’.
“This Bill is all about new technology, which will address our critical shortage of diesel, petrol and avgas,” Mr Katter said.
“This Bill is about establishing industry again in Australia and addressing our fuel security problem. The motor vehicle industry will be re-established again, with all Australian city-based public servants driving Australian made electric vehicles with Australian made batteries.
“We will have huge waste-to-diesel refineries(pyrolysis technology used in Germany at the end of World War II) around the country, which is being pioneered by Southern Oils in Wagga Wagga and Gladstone.
“The Bill also states that Australia’s petrol within 12months contain a minimum 5% renewables (inter alia ethanol, biochar, algae)and over a six-year period this content be increased to over 40%.
“To immediately create the need for Australian based refineries ,the export of oil and condensate from Australia will be terminated for two years.”
Mr Katter said that if Australia went down the path of taxing industries, then the cattle, coal and cane industries would close, and the economies of QLD and Northern NSW would be bankrupted.
“We have put up a bill that says we can reach our goals with technology and not taxes, but I can’t see what the Government is doing in terms of technology? We also need fuel security otherwise there’s not much point in having a Defence Force.
“I’m not too worried about the temperature rising 1.1 degrees in 100 years, but there are new technologies we can implement, without destroying our existing industries.”
The Sovereign Fuel Security Bill includes:
Section 1.
(a) The termination over a 2-year period of all oil and condensate exports from Australia.
(b) That the Federal Government call tenders for the provision of adequate processing facilities which will be majority owned by Australians, such processing facilities to be independent of any retail market ownership.
(c) Any corporation’s shareholding in the refineries must also be majority Australian owned.
Section 2.
(a) Federal Government calls tenders for the recycling into diesel fuel of all waste materials from metropolitan areas and major population centres.
(b) Such processing to be staged in by the timetable set out by the federal government and to be completed within 5 years of the gazetted publication date of this bill.
Section 3.
(a) That all government vehicles in capital cities, metropolitan areas and major population centres be electric vehicles, made in Australia by Australian owned factories and production centres.
(b) That all the batteries for these vehicles be made in Australia and these battery factories to be majority Australian owned.
Section 4.
(a) That Australia’s petrol within 12 months contain a minimum 5% renewables (inter alia ethanol) and over a 6-year period this content be increased to over 40%.
