This week saw the announcement of two new KAP candidates for the upcoming Federal Election in 2019. On Tuesday, we introduced Brendan Bunyan, candidate for Dawson and in Toowoomba on Friday we introduced Anthony Wallis, candidate for Maranoa.
Brendan has been in the Dawson electorate for over 30 years. He has previously lived in Mackay and Proserpine and he currently lives in the Burdekin with his young family. Brendan is a diesel fitter by trade and was a mechanic for 15 years. He currently works as a service manager in an Agricultural business.
Brendan will be campaigning to reduce the cost of living, support the sugar industry and promote the use of biofuels industry to create jobs and lower fuel prices. He also believes that local sporting clubs are the backbone of small communities and he has seen memberships down and young people unable to participate due to the costs associated. He wants to see more support for these small clubs to ensure they continue for future generations.
Anthony Wallis is a fifth generation farmer and is married with four children. He owns and runs a farming and grazing enterprise at Hannaford on the Western Downs. On his property, he grows dryland cereals and runs meat sheep. After completing an agricultural degree in Gatton he moved to Dalby, spending five years working for an agri-business consultancy. An opportunity arose to manage the family farm and he and his wife took this on and have recently purchased the business.
He understands that agriculture and mining have a strong connection with the regional centres that support them. His experiences working in a regional town and having invested personally in the agricultural sector gives him an excellent understanding of the issues that are relevant in the Maranoa Electorate. Anthony shares the concerns of locals, believing that the whole region has been taken for granted by the Liberal Nationals.
Katter’s Australian Party believes that these are two outstanding candidates, who are ready to provide real representation for their electorates.
