State Government sleeping at the wheel fuels North Queensland Crime Catastrophe

August 14, 2024

Be it adult or youth crime, Mount Isa residents continue to be left in turmoil after another weekend of crime chaos as offenders ran rampant under the negligent watch of the State Labor Government, Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) Leader and Member for Traeger, Robbie Katter said.

“Mount Isa and communities across North Queensland have been crying out for justice, but instead, they are met with a government that refuses to act,” Mr Katter said.

“There will be no justice for the victims whose lives have been shattered, until laws are changed.

“North Queenslanders have had enough of weak approaches to crime and are demanding real action.

“The answer has been staring the state government in the face – KAP’s solution to crime: Bush Sentencing; Mandatory Minimum Sentencing; Adult Crime = Adult Time; Remove Detention as a Last Resort and Castel Law,” the Member for Traeger said.

Mr Katter has previously criticised the State Labor Government’s feeble attempt at adopting KAP’s Bush Sentencing Policy through their ’Intensive On-Country Trial’, stating that it is missing the fundamentals needed to succeed and ignoring more than 40,000 Queenslanders in support of the KAP’s Castle Law once again underscores the Government’s disconnect to communities outside the south-east corner.

“The KAP’s message is clear: It is time for real representation for North Queensland, and for policies that will deliver meaningful and lasting outcomes to curb crime,” Mr Katter said.

“As we approach the election, it is vital that we know where both sides of the government stand on crime.

“We need a commitment from both sides that crime in North Queensland will be turned around.

“We will keep fighting for communities to be safe and our youth to be set on a path towards success, not crime,” Mr Katter said.
