You Can’t Ride Two Horses at Once! Katter Calls Out LNP Deception on Emissions

October 16, 2025

The LNP and the Treasurer are trying to mislead Queenslanders, Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) leader and Member for Traeger, Robbie Katter has said.

“The government has seen how toxic a blind, ideological pursuit of emissions reduction is, and has tried to con Queenslanders by scrapping renewables targets – without walking away from emissions targets!” Mr Katter said.

“Scrapping renewable targets and helping CopperString are good things, and we congratulate them for that, but the government can’t get away with only doing half the job.

In 2024, the then LNP Opposition voted in favour of passing Labor’s Clean Economy Jobs Bill.  The KAP were two of the three MPs who opposed implementing emissions targets on Queenslanders

“The LNP gladly voted with ALP to impose emissions targets on Queenslanders, costing us all in our hip pocket – and they aren’t backing down,” the KAP leader said.

“The now Premier, the Treasurer, they all gladly voted to implement emissions burdens last year, and they hope that scrapping renewables targets will convince the public that they don’t believe in reducing emissions – it’s clear that they do!” he said.

Mr Katter today submitted a Question on Notice to the Treasurer to confirm the government’s commitment to net zero aspirations.

“I look forward to the answer to my Question on Notice, and I suspect the answer will be very short – ‘yes’,” Mr Katter said.

“The KAP know that emissions targets – as well as renewables – are hitting Queenslanders in their household budget.

“If the government won’t, the KAP will introduce amendments or a bill of its own to abolish Queensland’s damaging emissions targets.

“The ball is in the government’s court – are they going to take the foot off Queensland’s throat and scrap emissions targets, or are they just going to play tricky games?” Mr Katter said.
