Working together for Queensland: Katters and Rennick join forces for senate

April 14, 2025

“The major parties have lost touch with reality. That’s what we’ve heard, and together, that’s what
we’re out to change.” Katter’s Australian Leader, Robbie Katter MP said today.
Katter’s Australia Party officially launched their Senate candidate, Robert Lyon, as well as landmark
partnership with The Gerard Rennick PeopleFirst party.
“Robert Lyon is a fantastic example of stoic North Queenslanders, who step up, have a crack, and
with a bit of hard work, get the job done,” Mr Katter said.
“A cane farmer, and tireless agricultural industry advocate, Mr Lyon is the type of Aussie fighter
who we are proud to have on our team.
“His passionate advocacy and support of the KAP’s member for Kennedy, Bob Katter, was key to
driving the successful granting of Category D funding for farmers following the devastation left by
flooding in February,” the KAP: leader said.
Mr Lyon said he was proud to be standing for the party he knew had the same drive and values.
“I’ve seen the effort and results from my Federal MP, Bob Katter, and I’m proud to be running for
the KAP,” Mr Lyon said.
“There is so much good in this country, but so much that has been left to be dismantled or outright
banned.
“I’m proud of my industry, and my state. We have so much potential, if only we were allowed to
harness it,” he said.
Talking about the partnership between the KAP and the Gerard Rennick PeopleFirst Party, Robbie
Katter MP said there was much that brought the two parties to work together.
“Regional infrastructure investment and services and calling for governments to put Australian
industry and jobs first, are two of many areas our two parties are strongly aligned on,” the KAP
Leader said.
Senator Rennick said it is time for minor parties to unite to work together to provide better
representation for Queensland and Australia.
“It is an honour to stand alongside Katter’s Australian Party who have always put the Australian and
Queensland people first,” he said.
“I’ve seen for decades how Bob Katter has been the only politician to stand up against the neoliberal
philosophy that saw Australian industry destroyed and Government Infrastructure sold.
“Had other politicians listened to his knowledge and wisdom, Australia would not be in the mess it
is in today.
“Bob Katter has lobbied tirelessly for Australian farmers, industry and workers, especially in North
Queensland.”
The KAP leader, speaking in Townsville, said he had benefitted from learning from Senator
Rennick’s knowledge of the economy and had come to know his passion for the regions.
“Senator Rennick grew up in Western Queensland, so he gets it. He, like the KAP understands the
many challenges regional Australians face,” Mr Katter said.
KAP and People First share many common values such as ensuring the wealth of this nation goes
to our children rather than foreign interests, that our Australian way of life is something to protect,
and the need for the regions to get their fair share of funding from the enormous wealth we
generate.”
“The Australian Senate, and Queenslanders, can’t afford to lose Senator Rennick. We need his
passion and understanding of the regions, and that’s why we’re teaming up in the senate,” the KAP
Leader said.
Robbie Katter MP is the national Leader of the KAP, and Queensland State Member for
Traeger.
