“Each time I visit Cairns and Cape York, all I think of is ‘what a land of opportunity’,” Katter’s
Australian Party (KAP) Leader Robbie Katter has said in Cairns, launching Dr Daniel Collins as the
KAP’s Leichhardt candidate.
“That’s why I’m so excited to announce Dr. Daniel Collins as the KAP candidate for Leichhardt. He
too sees the potential we have in this amazing part of the world, and more importantly he knows
how to do it,” Mr Katter said.
Holding an Honours Degree in Environmental Science and a PhD in Forest Science and Land
Management, Dr Collins founded Coraculture – a concept that manages environments to be
productive and sustainable. This includes agroforestry.
“Combining grazing and forestry, in a managed way, can open up the cape, build a thriving
economy, empower our communities, and further build Cairns,” Dr Collins said.
“It’s not just the timber industry and our environment that I’m passionate about – residents of
Cairns don’t feel safe, and I’m sick of it. I needed to do something, and nominating for the KAP
was the clear direction.
“I’m a firm believer that Castle Law should be law across Australia. It’s a real and tangible way that
we can put a true deterrent in place to stop the wanton crime, damage, and destruction of lives
that we see every day, here in Cairns, and across Australia,” he said.
The KAP Leader applauded Dr Collins’ passion for making a difference across the Leichhardt
electorate.
“It’s fantastic to see passionate people, like Dr Collins, who share the KAP’s vision for a truly better
Australia and North Queensland,” Mr Katter said.
“Enabling us to use our natural resources for good, not to lock them up, linking the tablelands to
Cairns with a tunnel, and driving real change to combat our crime crisis – it’s what the KAP are
driven to do, and it’s great to have Dr. Collins on our team.
Robbie Katter MP is the national Leader of the KAP, and Queensland State Member for Traeger.
