A Thorn in the Government’s Side, not Another Yes Man! Port Hinchinbrook – Needs A Fighter

November 9, 2025

It is only the Katter’s Australian Party that have been advocating for a solution for the debacle that is Port Hinchinbrook!  The Katter’s Australian Party Leader, and State Member for Traeger has said.

“You’d think that the last LNP Member for Hinchinbrook, having a seat at the so-called ‘table’ as a minister, would have had the sway to fix the total mess that Port Hinchinbrook was in his own electorate, but no!  It took persistent and strong KAP fight to get both Federal and State funding to get action,” Mr Katter said.

“If a minister can’t get things done for Hinchinbrook, what hope will another head-nodding backbencher directed from Brisbane have?

“There’s every chance the LNP will attempt to deceive the electors this by-election piping up for the first time and throwing around promises to ‘get on with the job’, or to ‘fix Port Hinchinbrook’.  The reality is they’ve been in Government 12 months and have barely looked away from Brisbane and their two-week Olympics party they’re spending billions and billions on.

“The LNP have been missing in action on Port Hinchinbrook, and there is no way, without the KAP in Hinchinbrook, as a thorn in the Government’s side, will anything happen,” Mr Katter said.

Back in 2022 the KAP Federal Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter secured $6 million, to add to $6.4 million of state funding, and it was the KAP Member for Hinchinbrook who secured the remaining $7 million to deliver the desperately needed sewerage and water treatment work.

The KAP Candidate for Hinchinbrook, Mark Molachino said he was proud to be joining North Queensland’s true fighters, after seeing the results that can be achieved from fierce advocacy and not being gagged by Brisbane head office.

“When the LNP approached me to run for them, I couldn’t bear the thought of being North Queensland’s representative but having to vote for Brisbane’s interests and rubbish like Net Zero and then be told to be quite when my electorate had vital local issues like Port Hinchinbrook,” Mr Molachino said.

“I’m a fighter, and I’m champing at the bit to pick up the fight to resolve Port Hinchinbrook and put an end to a saga that has left property owners in the lurch, the town of Cardwell aching for more tourist opportunities, and Queenslanders deprived of coming to see our paradise.

“Be it Port Hinchinbrook, keeping people safe in their homes with Castle Law, or fighting to scrap Reef Regulations, I’m in for the fight,” he said.

The KAP Leader Robbie Katter MP said it can’t be ignored that Townsville has three sitting LNP members, and yet after 12 months people across the region still don’t feel safe in their homes, and fear that their car will be the next to be stolen.

“It’s such a great point in case that the three Townsville LNP MPs have supposedly had a ‘seat at the table’, but they are still forced to vote for funding the Olympics while North Queensland misses out, they vote to gag debate on saving our waterways from infestation by crocs, and they vote to entrench net-zero targets,” he said.

“If you want Brisbane to have a two-week party, if you never want to swim in a waterhole again, and if you want your power bill to keep skyrocketing, vote for a Brisbane party.  If you want to feel safe in your home, have real investment in our infrastructure, and cut your power bills, vote KAP,” the KAP leader said
