Speaking in response to the appalling lack of recognition by the Senate for the capital of Israel, KAP Senator Fraser Anning expressed his disappointment.
“I’m bitterly disappointed at the result of today’s vote. The religious and historical significance of the Eternal city should be acknowledged by a Judeo-Christian nation such as ours.”
“When the rank and file members of the Liberal party vote overwhelmingly in favour to move the embassy, you would expect that Mr Turnbull and Ms Bishop would listen.”
“It would seem that some of the Liberal elite are out of touch with the grass roots members who have supported them for so long.” Senator Anning said.
“Jerusalem was established as the eternal capital of Israel and the Jewish nation by King David over 3000 years ago. It has never been the capital of an Arab or Muslim entity and not mentioned once in the Quran.”
“My proposal today to move the embassy to Western Jerusalem should have been supported. In any scenario for lasting peace, Western Jerusalem is not a point of contention.”
“Today, all major infrastructure of the Israeli government is in Jerusalem. The Knesset, government departments, official residence of the Prime Minister and Supreme Court are all in Jerusalem,” Senator Anning continued.
“Jerusalem is a logical place for our embassy. Much the same way Canberra is the primary choice for many nations in Australia.”
“The United States has recognised these facts and has moved its embassy to Jerusalem. Australia should have the courage to do the same.” Senator Anning concluded.
