Knuth targeting grandstand

June 14, 2018

KAP State Member for Hill Shane Knuth is using State Parliament to target funding for the construction of the new grandstand at Tully Showgrounds.

Knuth said securing the funding for the grandstand was a priority and he has been working closely with the Cassowary Coast Council, who have now submitted their proposal for funding.

 “Now that the submission is in, I have been able to support the project through the right channels in Brisbane. Discussions have been very positive and I believe that with the combined approach from council and my office, we should have good news in the near future.”

 “I am aiming to have funding secured for the Grandstand to be built in time for the World Rafting Championships to be held in Tully in May next year,” said Knuth.

 The championships include 54 nations, 1,000 competitors, with up to 10,000 visitors during the week-long event, which may also be televised world-wide through Fox Sports.

 “It’s a massive event and it is important that Tully has the facilities available to cater for competitors and visitors,” said Mr Knuth.

 Not only will this be good news for the World Rafting Championships but also great for the community added Mr Knuth;

 “There are 12 different users of the Tully Showgrounds and having a quality grandstand that provides comfort for attendees at events, while housing showers, change room, toilets and a kiosk will provide a big boost to those organisations who use the venue all year round.”

 “It will also strengthen Tully’s chances to secure high profile events for the region, including State League matches, regional, state, national and international events, added Mr Knuth.
