KAP Federal Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter, has extended congratulations to Mike Bowers as he concludes his distinguished tenure with The Guardian.
“Mike has constantly put shoulder to the wheel in the Press Gallery in Canberra, capturing the spirit, drama, and occasional absurdity of Australian politics with an unerring eye,” Mr Katter said.
Reflecting on Bowers' knack for storytelling through the lens, Mr Katter praised one particularly memorable moment: a photograph of himself and fellow MP Andrew Wilkie dressed in a pig suit, to protest the unchecked powers of the greedy supermarket giants.
“That shot was sort of brilliant—Mike’s eye turned a serious message into an image that spoke volumes and left an impression,” Mr Katter said.
“He really captured the ‘grunt’ in me, and I tell you, I am determined to see that duopoly broken up.”
Mr Katter said it was a shame losing such a seasoned professional from the Press Gallery but wished Bowers every success in his next chapter.
“Mike Bowers departure is a big loss to the Gallery. His dedication and artistry has enriched the Parliament and I thank him for his years of service and wish him all the best for the road ahead.”
