Castle Law Petition Surges Past 42,000 in Record Time

July 15, 2025

The people of Queensland have spoken loudly once again, with over 42,000 Queenslanders signing the latest Castle Law parliamentary petition in under two weeks, sending a powerful message to the State Government that personal safety and the right to defend yourself is paramount.

Hinchinbrook MP and Katter’s Australian Party Deputy Leader Nick Dametto said the overwhelming response to the petition reinforces just how fed up Queenslanders are with rising crime and the lack of legal confidence for those who wish to defend themselves inside their own homes.

“This is about the basic human right to defend yourself, your loved ones and your home without fear of being the one dragged through the courts for doing the right thing,” Mr Dametto said.

“Queenslanders are sick of living in fear. They are sick of hearing about violent offenders walking free while hardworking people are left to pick up the pieces. Castle Law gives people the legal backing to protect themselves in the heat of the moment and not be treated like a criminal for doing so.

“The sheer number of signatures this petition has received in such a short time proves that people are engaged, they have had enough, and they want action.

“The last time we launched a Castle Law petition it hit over 40,000 signatures in just five weeks. This new petition has already surpassed that in under two weeks. That should be a wake-up call to every Government member that Queenslanders are demanding change.

“If the Government will not act to protect our communities, then the people will force them to. I encourage anyone who supports Castle Law to add their name to the petition and stand up for their right to feel safe in their own home.”

The petition closes on 24 October 2025 can be found by following this link: https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/Work-of-the-Assembly/Petitions/Petition-Details?id=4267
