Farmers push for extension to banking inquiry (Farm Weekly, August 23)
DESPITE a successful trip to Canberra last week for a dozen WA farmers seeking to expand the terms of reference to the Banking Royal Commission, a petition has been organised to lobby Governor General Peter Cosgrove for changes to the inquiry, after the Federal government said it was happy with the way it was going. On August 14, about 150 people gathered at the main committee room of Parliament House in Canberra where Bob Katter's Australia Party senator Fraser Anning presided over a meeting that saw 35 stories presented by the victims of a financial service provider.

He has initiated a bill to reduce the $350,000 yearly fee for small, rural establishments to $360. The issue has been taken up by Gregory MP Lachlan Millar and Janetzki, who notes the fee in a Brisbane pub is that same as that in a Yaraka pub. Janetzki confirms there has been a bill in the House [of Representatives] for a couple years, but the Labor Government has never acted on that.

HINCHINBROOK MP Nick Dametto is standing by Katter Australian Party Senator Fraser Anning's maiden speech calling for a "final solution" on immigration through the return of the White Australia policy. Mr Anning called for a ban on Muslim immigration and a preference for migrants with European Christian backgrounds. The speech calling for a plebiscite on immigration was derided as factually incorrect and roundly condemned across the political spectrum.
